To ensure the efficient, hygienic, and humane operation of the milking parlour by supervising daily milking routines, maintaining high milk quality standards, and managing staff, equipment, and animal welfare in line with best dairy practices.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Supervise Daily Milking Operations
• Supervise and coordinate all daily milking activities.
• Ensure adherence to proper milking procedures to protect udder health.
• Maintain strict compliance with milking schedules (e.g., twice daily). - Hygiene and Sanitation Protocols
• Enforce hygiene protocols for parlour equipment and staff.
• Maintain strict cleanliness of parlour, equipment, staff hygiene and sanitization of milking equipment and environment.
• Monitor udder hygiene practices before and after each milking. - Monitor Animal Health During Milking
• Observe cows for mastitis, lameness, or stress during milking.
• Report abnormalities to the Veterinary or Dairy Manager.
• Ensure humane handling practices at all times. - Train and Manage Milking Staff
• Provide training and supervise the milking team.
• Allocate tasks and oversee performance and discipline.
• Ensure compliance with safety and biosecurity protocols. - Maintain Accurate Records
• Maintain accurate daily records: milk yield, cow performance, issues.
• Track cleaning, maintenance, and treatment logs.
• Submit daily reports to management. - Equipment Maintenance
• Monitor functionality of milking machines and cooling systems.
• Identify and report repair needs promptly.
• Ensure proper use, cleaning, and storage of equipment. - Implement Safety and Biosecurity Measures
• Enforce safe working practices and biosecurity protocols to protect herd health. - Inventory and Supplies
• Monitor supply levels of consumables (e.g., gloves, teat dips, cleaners).
• Notify manager when stock is low and assist in inventory control. - Performance Indicators: KPIs will be discussed and finalized upon official commencement of employment with the company.

Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Animal Science, Dairy Technology, Veterinary Science, or related field
- Training in milking systems, mastitis prevention, and milk hygiene.
- Certification in HACCP or milk quality assurance is an added advantage.
Experience:
- 6–10+ years in a dairy farm or large-scale milking operation
- Proven experience supervising milking teams and managing parlour operations
- Experience with modern milking systems (e.g., DeLaval, GEA)
- Familiarity with Tanzanian dairy regulations and milk quality standards
- Exposure to well-established dairy systems, whether local of international is considered an added advantage.
